Regional Collaborators

The Statistical Committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is constituted by 14 Southern African countries: Angola, Botswana, D.R. Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Kingdom of Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia & Zimbabwe. The Statistical Committee of the SADC seeks to harmonize the censuses conducted or to be conducted in the member countries.


The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) is a scientific pan-African organization involved in the study and promotion of an understanding of Africa's population and demography; its headquarters was recently moved from Dakar, Senegal to Accra, Ghana.


The United Nations Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) at the University of Ghana, is a regional training institution for English-speaking African countries. RIPS runs a training program leading to MA, M.Phil, or Ph.D. in Population Studies. It also organizes ad hoc, special and in-service training courses in population issues.


The Institut de Formation et de Recherche Démographiques (IFORD), Université de Yaoundé II, is a regional institution for French speaking African countries. IFORD pursues training in population issues at M.A. and Ph.D. levels; research and publication in all aspects of African demography; and provides services to the member-states.


The Centre d'Etudes et Recherche sur la Population et le Développement or the Programme Majeur Population/Développement (CERPOD) is a major program of the Institute of Sahel's, "Comité Permanent Inter-Etats de Lutte Contre la Sécheresse dans le Sahel (CILSS)."CERPOD covers the nine Sahelian African countries: Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and The Gambia.


The International Network of Field Sites with Continuous Demographic Evaluation of Population and Their Health in Developing Countries (INDEPTH). INDEPTH brings together researchers from over the developing world involved field site longitudinal data collection with the purpose of creating and developing the technology and methods for analyzing such data. In addition, ACAP has a bilateral relation with the Navrongo Health Research Center (NHRC), a Ghanaian Ministry of Health institution involved in health and demographic research.

 

The Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (ISAE) situated at Makerere University in Kampala - Uganda, has since 1969 conducted a regional training program under the Statistical Training Program for Africa (STPA) and coordinated by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The program has a core participation of nine Eastern and Southern African countries namely: Uganda; Botswana; Kenya; Lesotho; Malawi; Swaziland, Tanzania; Zambia and Zimbabwe.
